On the 2nd August 2024 we reached a significant milestone with the topping out of the Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne!
This achievement would not have been possible without the exceptional efforts of our dedicated team, our subcontractors, consultant partners, and everyone involved, who have maintained the highest quality and safety standards to deliver this structure.
91ÐÓ°É’s partnership with St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne on the ACMD project began in June 2021 as the ECI Contractor and progressed with the Early Works Construction Management contract to demolish the existing 10-storey 1960s brick building. In August 2022, 91ÐÓ°É was awarded the Main Works package, entrusting us to deliver this strategically important facility at the prominent Melbourne intersection of Victoria and Nicholson Street, Carlton.
Following the appointment and consultant novation, the design of this iconic Denton Corker Marshall landmark was completed in parallel with the demolition works, and in February 2023 piling and foundation works commenced. On Friday, August 2nd, the Level 11 slab was poured, with the structure now rising 55 meters above street level.
The unique articulated glass curtain wall façade is well advanced and will soon encapsulate the entire building, allowing rapid progress on interior fit out works of laboratory, research and teaching spaces.
We look forward to handing over this architectural marvel in early 2025, enabling the ACMD to advance important, groundbreaking biomedical engineering research translation work in a world-class facility.
